I have a friend who is upgrading from MS Works to MS Word to include Excel. He has a number of spreadsheets that were created in Works that we would like to convert or import into Excel. I haven't found anything saying it can be done. Has anyone been along this road before? Would appreciate some direction.

    Thanks

XLR is the native Works spreadsheet extension, and the implication here is that Excel can be used to open it.

WDB is a Works database file and if there are just a handful, I would save them as CSV files and then open those in Excel.

Excel 2000 will open Works *.xlr files, but not Works *.wks from earlier versions. Save a *.wks file as a text file to open in Excel.

Saving as a CSV file worked OK but we lost the headers in the database. We then tried saving as a dBase file (.dbf) and that worked even better as the headers were in place when we opened them in Excel.

I did experience a problem in that my friend was using works to email the database to me and I could not open the database. When I asked him to send them "the old fashion way" the files I received were a different size and they opened just fine. Not really sure what he was doing but he said he had the files opened when he sent them and emailing was an option from one of the menu dropdown's.

The final result was success. Thank you gentlemen for your help.
